Cyber criminals try to threaten/steal personal information to commit cyber-crime/financial fraud through such calls. DoT does not authorize anyone on its behalf to make such calls And it has advised people to be alert and not to share any information on receiving such calls. Cases of people receiving such calls are increasing, in which callers in the name of DoT are threatening that All their mobile numbers will be disconnected, or their mobile numbers are being misused in some illegal activities. Apart from this, WhatsApp calls have also been received from mobile numbers of foreign origin (like +92-xxxxxxxxx) to defraud people by impersonating government officials. +92 is the code for Pakistan whereas all local calls here start with +91, which is the code for India.
